Environmental Principles

The environmental philosophy and policies of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, Inc. require the company to engage in activities to promote personal health and to protect the environment. All divisions, including 4 factories and sales offices nationwide, adhere to these policies.

Environmental Philosophy

“Environmental protection is a corporate activity that requires the participation of all the employees.”

Otsuka’s companywide environmental activities include those for maintaining the health of people (the internal environment) and of the ecosystem (the external environment). Otsuka works diligently nationwide to recycle whenever possible and to promote environmental harmony.

Environmental Policies

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, Inc. (Otsuka)

1. Has developed and maintains an environmental management system.
   • Otsuka has established a companywide environmental management system.
   • Otsuka will continually improve environmental performance.
2. Promotes business activities that consider the environment and minimize environmental impact.
   • To minimize any effect on global warming, Otsuka will reduce the amount of CO2 emitted from production and business activities.
   • Otsuka will achieve zero emissions by promoting the recycling of waste products.
   • Otsuka will save energy and conserve natural resources.
   • Otsuka will properly manage chemical substances.
   • Otsuka will cooperate with affiliated companies to promote environmental awareness.
3. Conducts all Research & Development activities and material procurement with careful consideration of the environmental effects.
   
   • Otsuka will consider the environmental impact of its manufacturing process at each stage of a product’s life cycle—from Research & Development to disposal.
   • Otsuka will procure materials in an environmentally friendly way.
4. Ensures full compliance with all laws, regulations, and agreements related to environmental protection inside and outside of Japan.
   • Each Otsuka office and factory sets their own management standards.
   • Otsuka will improve compliance with environmental standards through continuing education for its employees.
   • Otsuka will perform a companywide audit to evaluate compliance.
5. Communicates openly to ensure the company’s role as a good corporate citizen.
   • Otsuka will participate in activities designed to foster and maintain a harmonious coexistence with local communities.
   • Otsuka will publicize its environmental and community activities and its achievements in these areas.
   • Otsuka will promote environmental education and increase the environmental awareness of each of its employees.
