Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory launches "HINEX Jelly Aqua," a concentrated liquid diet product to assist hydration

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, Inc. (Head Office: Naruto, Tokushima, Japan; President and Representative Director: Shuichi Takagi; "Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory") has updated "Hine^® Jelly Aqua," its concentrated liquid diet product to assist hydration, with improved compositions and physical properties and will launch "HINEX^® Jelly Aqua ("the product")", as a new addition to "HINEX," the existing line of concentrated liquid diet products, on June 26, 2025.

The product is a semisolid (jelly-type) concentrated liquid diet product made with agar for persons whose standard calorie intake is 900 to 1500 kcal per day. Modifying the water content of the product per pouch (300 kcal) to 303 mL to make it approximately 1 mL/ kcal makes it easier to calculate the amount of water per calorie, which may help save time and effort and reduce costs. In consideration of nutritional management for those with a low energy requirement, the product is designed to almost fulfill the daily requirements of vitamins and trace elements with an intake of 3 pouches (900 kcal). Its physical properties have also been improved through reference to the viscosity, which is expected to suppress gastroesophageal reflux^*1.

Hine Jelly Aqua, which was released in 2009, contains nutrients modified through reference to the 2005 edition of Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese, while HINEX Jelly Aqua contains nutrients modified through reference to the latest 2025 edition. Furthermore, a solid is generally excreted more slowly from the stomach than a liquid and backflow into the esophagus rarely occurs. As semisolid concentrated liquid diet products become familiar, further investigation is being conducted to search for an appropriate viscosity. Based on such backgrounds, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory has developed the product so that it has better compositions and physical properties than those of Hine Jelly Aqua.
